The Middle Power Studies Network (MPSN) convened the Second Middle Powers Strategic Dialogue in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 13–14 April 2026, bringing together experts and former policymakers from middle power countries from the Global North and South to discuss the strategic choices facing middle powers amid a changing global order. The two-day programme comprised a closed-door roundtable on the first day, providing a platform for in-depth discussions among delegates, followed by a Middle Powers Conference on the second day, featuring a series of panel discussions open to a limited on-site audience and livestreamed globally. Held under the theme “Alignments and Realignments in the Next World Order: Middle Powers’ Strategic Choices,” the dialogue explored how middle powers can respond to shifts in U.S. foreign policy, recalibrate international partnerships, strengthen multilateralism and regional cooperation, and navigate strategic competition over energy, critical minerals, and technology.
