Now entering the third year, the Emerging Middle Powers Initiative (KEMP) explores

how senior experts and decision-makers in Germany, India, Brazil, Indonesia, and

South Africa views their countries’ roles in the world.

This initiative is conducted by a consortium of think tanks: Körber-Stiftung, Foreign

Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI), BRICS Policy Center, South African Institute of

International Affairs (SAIIA), and Gateway House Indian Council on Global Relations.

In light of the United States’ withdrawal from international institutions, growing trade restrictions, and the erosion of the international order, Germany is more dependent than ever on deepened and new partnerships worldwide. Emerging middle powers such as Brazil, India, Indonesia, and South Africa, in particular, possess considerable political and economic weight. How can Germany and these emerging powers jointly realize their potential? How are international relations and the role of the great powers within the global system perceived in these countries? And what ideas exist there about the future order of international relations?
